Mana worked for our gallery located in my hometown Otsu, Shiga, when she was a graduate student. She helped us as an interpreter when we had a potential partner from New York. The Field Science Education and Research Center of Kyoto University focuses its research and educational activities on the study of ‘Connectivity of Hills, Humans and Oceans (CoHHO)’: an academic field which aims to clarify the ecological connectivity from forests to the sea, and the influence of human activities upon it. On our website, we have a series of articles explaining the CoHHO studies, written in a style so that even high-school students can understand their content（https://fserc.kyoto-u.ac.jp/wp/cohho_study）.
Mana translated several of my articles from Japanese into English. In scientific translation, we need to have a scientific background in order to understand the content accurately. However, I have an experience of being disappointed by receiving inadequately translated material from an external translation company for this kind of work. On the contrary, I was extremely satisfied with Mana’s scientific translation, which was almost perfect including the nuanced expressions in Japanese. Not only does Mana have an academic background in science with a BSc from the University of Edinburgh, and a MSc from Kyoto University (Center for Ecological Research), but she also makes an effort to look up technical terminologies and related references. I highly evaluate her work and trust her with scientific translation.

I run a guesthouse in Maizuru, Kyoto, where almost 50% of our guests are foreigners. My English level is good enough to run the guesthouse and to communicate with our guests, but I find it difficult to write fluently or teach others.
I was especially impressed by Mana's English training. She made an original tourist guide with pictures. The training was a role play, where the guide and guest made pairs and it was very practical. Now the staff have improved their English, and we are getting best reviews (10 out of 10) for the staff section.
Mana is considerate of the client’s needs, as she not only makes the English materials, but also makes various suggestions for improvement. I’m also surprised at how fast she gets the work done despite having two small kids and has other hobbies, such as growing vegetables and baking cakes.
